About 1980-81, I ran across a small book of polaroids produced by the artist Sol Lewitt. I was familiar with Mr. Lewitt’s work and other of these little picture books he had produced. This one was entitled “Cock Fight Dance.” The Images were of chickens doing the things that chickens do but concentrated on the confrontation between two roosters engaging each other, possibly in some sort of dominance. What intrigued me was the portrayal of motion in the images. The blur of movement is a problem that has intrigued artists for centuries. I began with Prisma color drawings and graduated to ink studies of various sizes and watercolors of various sizes. In the end, I had a very rich understanding of the concept of movement in 2D artwork.
