Echidna

For quite a while I was doing research into Greek myths. I had noticed a pattern concerning women in these stories. They were either goddess’, victims, daughters|mothers|wives, troublemakers or occasionally kidnapped. I began to start looking into some of the more obscure stories. Echidna is one of them. Echidna and her husband, Typhon, fought in the war between the titans and the Gods. Unfortunately, they sided with the titans. As punishment for siding with the losers, they killed Typhon but left her alive. Why? She would be responsible to give birth and raise all the monsters that heroes would slay to prove themselves. Such a fate. I had also decided to pick up colored pencils again. My technique was pretty rough, so I put together a composition of textures to render, I also constructed it around a female form, but hid it, suggesting that she would wish to hide from any peering eyes while she wept, as she rocked her children to sleep, knowing their fate would be to be killed to prove someone else’s worth.
