Marawaka Boy

I did this piece for my late mother. While I was on Bougainville Island, the year before I started Art School, I was attempting to hone my chops, experiment, try things. One of the first pieces I did while there was a version of this little boy. I traded the drawing for art supplies that I didn’t bring with me. My mother was quite upset by this because she thought that I would give the drawing to her. I had never mentioned such a thing, but Italian mothers have their own set of rules. I promised her I’d draw another for her and about 6 years later I did. At the time, I was experimenting with line weight in an engraved style of representation.
